Inara certainly lives up to her name, which means “ray of light!” Inara is a beautiful and sweet 60 lb, 1-year-old border collie mix with a tail that never stops wagging once she gets to know you.  Inara was found on the Texas and Mexico border, all alone and wandering in search of humans and food. A caring border patrol agent scooped her up and kept her safe.  She can be shy and fearful in new situations, but once she trusts you, she’s incredibly affectionate, loyal, and sweet – a total cuddle bug who just wants to be near her people.

Inara is house trained. She LOVES other dogs and would thrive in a home with another canine companion to help her feel more secure and show her the ropes.  She is curious and athletic; she loves to play and chase her foster siblings around the yard. Inara is also very smart and food motivated, which makes training a lot of fun. So far, she has learned “sit,” “paw,” “down,” “touch,” and “leave it” (though she’s still perfecting the last command in the company of squirrels). She’s working on these skills and building confidence in her foster home. At night, she sleeps on a dog bed in her foster parent’s room.

Inara is looking for a calm, understanding forever home that will give her the time and space to feel safe. Because she can be skittish, a family with small children might not be the best option for her. But if you're patient, loving, and have a few treats in your pocket, Inara will absolutely become your new best friend.

Inara is microchipped, spayed, up to date on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $415.  If you have the welcoming home Inara is searching for, apply to adopt INARA LONESTAR at www.ehrdogs.org!
